Hey fellow collector,
First of all, welcome to My Collectibles.
My name is David, and I have been slowly working on building this in my spare time (and with spare funds that don’t end up adding to my ever expanding card collection).
But you care less about me, and more about why you’re reading this, right?
Around a year ago I went on a bit of a buying spree. I must have bought 10 – 15 cards on PWCC and a few in Goldin.
All in all, I didn’t spend much. Around $10,000. But the best part of $2,000 of that was in fees.
I started to do the math…
Lets say I buy a card for $2,000. Buyers premium would be $400.
That now stands me at $2,400, and if I want to sell for a profit – I am already 20% down.
Of course, the argument you can have is that you should be able to sell your cards for more with a reputable auction house, due to their market reach and marketing budgets. But that isn’t always the case.
So, reason number one.
I wanted a place I could sell my cards with minimal fees.
Next…
Buying cards on social media is broken (in my humble opinion).
Chaotic facebook posts with unorganised comments.
Lack of prices.
Cards listed that have been sold.
Disappearing Instagram stories.
I get it…
It’s easy to post on social.
But I thought it would be much easier if you could post a link to your own ‘store’.
That way it was all organised. Easy to manage and you could keep your inventory up to date.
This is reason number two. Fixing how we sell on social media.
Next…
I’m not necessarily an ‘active’ seller. More an active buyer!
However, it doesn’t mean I’m not open to offers on my stuff.
I wanted to create a place I could list all my collection and take offers. Then chat with the potential buyer and strike a deal.
I wanted to do this without the worry of Ebay closing my account for talking to someone off of the platform.
Looking at all these things – I didn’t see anywhere on the market looking out for the everyday collector.
Sure, there are people out there with million dollar jerseys that get the VIP treatment….
…and yes, it’s easy to sell your PSA 10 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card.
But what about the people buying and selling raw cards?
Cards that cost $20 – $200.
We are left with limited options.
To shop in places that aren’t built for commerce. At all.
I want to go on a journey to change that.
